Publication

Allowable Costs?
  • PI Salary support (total amount of the award can be requested with appropriate justification)
  • Student research assistant costs
  • Editing and proofreading costs
  • Costs associated with access to books or journals that UNC-CH does not subscribe to
  • Purchase of books
  • Publication costs associated with publishing in some journals or other publications (e.g., article-processing charges [APCs])
Unallowable Costs?
  • Software purchases
  • Computers, laptops, or other electronic devices
  • Other equipment
  • Any travel-related costs for PI or hired student research assistants

Presentation

Allowable Costs?
  • Student research assistant costs
  • Editing and proofreading costs
  • Costs associated with access to books or journals that UNC-CH does not subscribe to
  • Purchase of books
  • Travel to conference costs, which can include:
    • Registration fee
    • Round-trip airfare (domestic travel and domestic airlines only), mileage
    • Per diem costs (based on UNC-CH rates)
    • Hotel costs
  • Any presentation development costs (e.g., printing a color poster)

  • Software purchases
  • Computers, laptops, or other electronic devices
  • Other equipment
  • Salary support for PI
  • Any alcoholic beverage costs during the conference period

Professional Exploration and Growth Grants

Allowable Costs?
  • Registration fees
  • Round-trip airfare (domestic travel and domestic airlines only), mileage
  • Per diem costs (based on UNC-CH rates)
  • Hotel costs
  • Books, hardware, software, or other equipment/materials required for the program/event
Unallowable Costs?
  • Travel, lodging, or other costs associated with attending or presenting at a disciplinary conference (see either the SOTL or Research Communication presentation grant options for this)
  • Individual stipends
  • General books, hardware, software, or other equipment/materials
  • Membership fees
  • Original data collection or archival work
