Being Better Faculty Research Mentors
The CFE and NC TraCS co-sponsor a University-wide faculty mentoring training program entitled, Being Better Faculty Research Mentors (BBFRM). BBFRM is intended for faculty members interested in improving their mentoring relationships with their mentees (mentees can be postdocs, graduate students, undergraduates, or even other junior faculty members) to help these different groups of mentees be successful researchers in their stages of careers. Based on a curriculum developed by the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN), this program consists of 8 1-hour sessions focused on the following topics and skills:
- Maintaining Effective Communication
- Aligning Expectations
- Assessing Understanding
- Fostering Independence
- Professional Development
- Addressing Equity and Inclusion
- Articulating Your Mentoring Philosophy and Plan
BBFRM has modified the original NRMN curriculum to engage a broad discipline of faculty researchers and emphasize the importance of inclusive mentoring from the beginning of the curriculum. You must be willing to commit to all 8 sessions to participate in the program.
The next BBFRM training will occur in April 2017. If you are interested in being in this cohort, complete this form to let us know of your availability in April 2017.
