National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER). This program offers tenure track assistant professors the opportunity to integrate research and education efforts for substantial early career support. For local resources, request access to the CFE’s NSF CAREER – Participants Teams site.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a systematic, evidence-based approach to improving teaching and learning. UNC faculty members who are taking steps to improve student learning can conduct research to help gauge the effectiveness of the changes they are making. Such research can provide useful feedback on teaching methods, serve as a foundation for scholarly articles and conference presentations, and help bolster faculty vitae.

CFE Teaching and Learning. This division of the CFE provides current information on available funding opportunities that they administer.

The IAH keeps a current list of their funding and award opportunities on their website.

NC TraCs partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming. The Institute was founded as a service to the research community— guiding investigators through clinical trials and regulatory approval, all the way to implementation inpatient care. They educate, fund, connect, and support researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill and across the U.S.

Odum Institute. This institute partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming. They support the social science, teaching, and research mission at UNC through a range of consulting services on quantitative and qualitative methods, GIS and spatial analysis, survey research data management. They offer more than 60 short courses and workshops every year, a graduate Certificate in Survey Science, individualized consultation on a wide variety of research topics. They operate a world-renowned data archive that continues to be a leader in archive tool and support development, and assist researchers in grant proposal development and formation of teams and collaborators.

The OACU partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming. They, in coordination with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), oversee the University’s animal care and use program and are responsible for reviewing all animal care applications using vertebrate animals, ensuring compliance with federal animal welfare regulations, inspecting animal facilities and investigator laboratories, investigating animal concerns, and overseeing training and educational programs.

The CFR provides guidance and links to potential Foundation funding including opportunities for early-career faculty. Access to an extensive Foundation Directory is managed by Michelle Arroyo.

This office partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming. They provide consulting services and foster collaborations, assist with medical student surveys, provide educational research support, and assist School of Medicine researchers with their preparation and submission of their scholarly work.

The OHRE partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming. They are responsible for ethical and regulatory oversight of research at UNC-Chapel Hill that involves human subjects. The OHRE administers, supports, and guides the work of the Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and all related activities.

The Office of the Provost provides current information on internal awards and funding opportunities.

The Office of Research Development partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations and NSF CAREER programming. They also offer a host of services for researchers including proposal development, limited submissions and large/complex grants, guidance with searching for funding, and internal funding opportunities that they administer including Idea grants, Creativity Hubs, Arts & Humanities Research Grants, and Publication Grants.

OSR partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming. They are the University’s focal point for administration of proposal and award transactions.

This searchable database provides access to 40,000 funding opportunities from more than 10,000 federal, public, non-profit, and private sponsors.

The Writing Center partners with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming. They are an instructional service that provides writing assistance for students, faculty, and staff.

UNC Libraries. The library system is one of the largest research support groups on campus. They are a partner with CFE Research on Faculty Foundations programming and provide a wide array of consultation services, guides, electronic resources and databases, search tools and facilities to support researchers.

The DOD supports a broad array of proposals across disciplines.

Grants.gov is a powerful search engine for finding federal grant opportunities.

The NCFDD provides a wealth of resources, webinars, courses, weekly faculty development tips, and more through its website, at no charge to UNC faculty members per a cooperative endeavor of the Center for Faculty Excellence, The Graduate School, College of Arts and Sciences, Postdoctoral Affairs in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

The NEA is the independent federal agency providing funding and support for exemplary arts projects in nationwide through grantmaking, initiatives, partnerships, and events.

The NEH is an independent federal agency and is one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States. It awards grants for top-rated proposals including those from UNC faculty on teaching and learning, research and original scholarship, lifelong learning, and the preservation and access to cultural and educational resources.

The NIH is a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency, and a major funder of UNC Researchers.

The NSF is an independent federal agency that serves as the funding source for 25 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America’s colleges and universities including (but not restricted to) mathematics, computer science and the social sciences.
