Chairs Leadership Skills Series (Open Enrollment, Spring 2018)

The Chairs Leadership Skills Series is a focused approach to leadership topics intended for current or newly appointed chairs. Participants will review leadership concepts and models, apply and practice skills, and reflect by building an individual leadership development plan to continue their learning. This series will help leaders identify the key skills for as a Chair and create a common language for leadership competencies.

The two parts of these open enrollment sessions offer reflection, models and practice in leading effectively. Starting with identifying the common key challenges for leading as a Chair we will use the Leadership Architect tool to articulate the key skills needed to meet these challenges. The second part of the series continues with building an intentional pathway to interacting well with others. A commitment to all the sessions is not required and yet recommended. As an experienced or new Chair we will engage a deliberate review of the group’s current successful leadership practices and build upon those shared experiences as we approach each session’s learning.

Part I: You as a Leader: Discovery, Leadership Competencies and Development Plans

We will identify the typical goals and roles of a Chair and then articulate which leadership competencies are most important for the Chair’s role. The leadership architect tool provides a robust offering of identifying competencies, development actions to support skill building and the opportunity to create a draft individual development plan to continue leadership growth. The leadership architect also provides a common language for leadership that can be used on mentoring and coaching others.
