Leadership Fundamentals (Nomination Required)
Leadership Fundamentals is a cohort program for current or newly appointed leaders. The program begins with a focus on key leadership assessments and topics. Participants will learn leadership concepts and models, build specific skills, and practice mastery of those skills through real case studies and small group mentoring and coaching. Leaders will focus on how to continue to develop those skills and complete a targeted and specific individual leadership development plan.
Each part of this leadership program offers reflection, models and practice in leading effectively. Starting with self-reflection as a leader is the intentional pathway to interacting well with others. A commitment to all the sessions as a leadership cohort will provide the fundamental connections and collaborations to make learning meaningful, relevant and sustainable.
Part I: You as a Leader: Discovery and Identity
The first three sessions focus on self-awareness about leading. We begin with creating a leadership learning community as we mentor, coach and support each other. We will review leadership approaches and examine which philosophies are most relevant to you, your specific departments, centers, groups or units. By articulating your professional values we will connect how those values translate into the ways you want to lead and communicate.
We start with identifying your own preferences and strengths using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality preferences instrument. This assessment lays the groundwork to understand other’s preferences and discover simple ways of communicating that builds trusting relationships. The MBTI will provide multiple applications for leading others such as understanding strengths and styles, communications, problem-solving, coaching and decision-making to name a few. As leaders, gaining self-awareness and then reflecting about your own style will provide the foundational components of how to build trust with yourself and effective relationships with others. We will create a common language of leadership competencies using the leadership architect tool and develop an individual plan to continue your leadership learning.
