UNC’s Instructional Tech Toolkit at Work

This session features instructional technologies available to all UNC instructors and students. Learn how faculty are using tools such as Gradescope, Microsoft Teams, Check-in App, and VoiceThread, and making them accessible to all students.
Using Case Studies to Make Course Content Relevant
Peebles Room
While case studies are used extensively in disciplines such as business, law, and medicine, this technique is very generalizable. Find out how instructors in other disciplines are utilizing case studies to engage students.
Making Group Work More Effective

Student group work is a key component of active learning, but requires strategic use of space, time, and your input as the instructor. Faculty from a variety of disciplines will share their techniques for student success in group work, including taking advantage of classrooms updated under the Flexible Learning Spaces Initiative.

When student work takes the form of creative expression, how can it be graded fairly? Learn how faculty approach their assessments of writing, performance, and maker-based projects.
Developing Multimedia Assignments

This session features student multimedia projects created using Adobe software, now available at no cost to UNC students. Learn how instructors developed their assignments and find out about upcoming course development grant opportunities.

Teaching Demo: Pick-5 Group Activity

Pick-5 is a game-based activity used in the UNC Pediatrics Department in which student groups work independently on a diagnosis and then come together at the end to discuss results. A generalized version of the technique, which can be adopted in any discipline, will be used in the demonstration.
XR: Immersive Technologies in the Classroom

The 2018 Faculty Showcase on Teaching featured demos of many extended reality (XR) technologies. Hear from two faculty members who have since integrated immersive technology assignments into their courses.

From large, interdisciplinary initiatives to small teaching tweaks, every instructor can find ways to bring an equity mindset to their teaching. In this session, faculty will share the work they are doing to make Carolina classrooms more inclusive of all students.
How Am I Doing? Models for Feedback on Teaching

Carolina faculty members and departments continue to explore options for teaching feedback that go beyond student course evaluations. In this session, learn about both informal and formal peer support models being used on campus.
