Four Steps for Getting Tech Ready for the Faculty Showcase

Zoom

Zoom will be used for all concurrent and keynote sessions. Links to each session in Zoom have been added to the program (added Wed. 4/21). From this point onward, you may be prompted to log in with your UNC Onyen and password in order to access the program and associated links.

Step #1: Update your Zoom app.

Verify that your computer or mobile devic is running the most recent version of the Zoom app. To check for Zoom updates, follow the steps described at the ‘Upgrade/update to the latest version‘ support page.

Questions about updating your Zoom app? Contact the ITS Service Desk.

Step #2: Always log into your UNC Zoom account.

In order to help maintain a safe Zoom experience for all attendees—and to help you avoid being placed in sessions’ waiting rooms—you should log in at unc.zoom.us before you click the links to join Showcase sessions.

If you have more than one Zoom account, verify that you have logged into your Zoom app with the account associated with your UNC Onyen and password before joining Showcase sessions. Refer to the instructions at the ‘Zoom: Logging into the Meeting Client with UNC SSO‘ help article; if you are logged in with your UNC account, the email address which appears underneath your displayed name should end with ‘…@email.unc.edu’.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a group collaboration platform which is included in UNC’s Office 365 site license. In order to continue the conversations from our Zoom sessions, we invite you to chat and share resources with presenters and other attendees via the Showcase’s Microsoft Teams site. As a registrant for the Showcase, you will be automatically added as a member of this Team. We encourage you to get to know other attendees, connect with presenters after their sessions, share insights you have uncovered during sessions with the rest of our Showcase community, and reach out to the Showcase planning team.

Step #3: Explore the Showcase’s Teams site.

After you have been added as member of our Teams site, a good place to start would be by introducing yourself.

Additional Technical Support

Step #4: Reach out to tech support at any time.

Rest assured that technical support will be available for you throughout the Showcase. One or more co-hosts will be present in each Zoom session to help you navigate the virtual environment, and the ITS Service Desk is ready to respond to any issues you might have in accessing Showcase content. Call or chat for just-in-time help whenever you might need it!

There will also be a Showcase Information Desk (via Zoom) available if you’d like to chat with a CFE staff member about general questions. This will be staffed beginning Thursday 4/22 at 8am (EDT). See current staffing status and join the Info Desk through the “Check Your Tech” section on the program. You can also email showcase2021@unc.edu.
