Women ADVANCE Leadership
Women ADVANCE Leadership is a workshop series to encourage and support mid-career women faculty (associate professor and higher, tenured and fixed-term) seeking to enhance their skills and advance to senior leadership, research, and teaching positions. Participants join a multidisciplinary cohort of mid-career women faculty to attend a monthly Women ADVANCE Leadership Workshop. Each workshop features a respected and accomplished woman leader sharing her story followed by an interactive discussion and activities. Featured speakers represent a breadth of academic leadership roles, and many are renowned for their careers in STEM fields
As part of the Women ADVANCE Leadership experience, participants have the opportunity to conduct or plan a project, which they will lead and for which they will provide recommendations. Ideally, the project will benefit both their professional advancement and the effectiveness and efficiency of their UNC-CH unit or department. Project guidelines are available here.
The application process has closed for 2020-21. We anticipate offering Women ADVANCE Leadership again in 2021-22.

Session 1: Leading with Values (Friday, September 4, 2:30 to 4:30 PM)
Session 2: Naming Your Strengths and the Power of Feedback (Friday, October 2, 2:30 to 4:30 PM)
Session 3: The Art of Negotiating and Influencing (Friday, December 11, 2:30 to 4:30 PM)
Session 4: Leading Change (Friday, January 8, 2:30 to 4:30 PM)
Session 5: Networking to Develop Mentors and Sponsors (Friday, February 5, 2:30 to 4:30 PM)
Session 6: Recap, Reflection, and Moving Forward (Friday, March 5, 2:30 to 4:30 PM)
Fall 2020 sessions will meet virtually.
Faculty who complete the Women ADVANCE Leadership series will receive recognition from the Office of the Provost, TEAM ADVANCE, and the Center for Faculty Excellence. Faculty from STEM and related disciplines may be invited to participate in TEAM ADVANCE research activities; however, involvement in research activities is voluntary and not required to participate in Women ADVANCE Leadership.
