The Center for Faculty Excellence welcomes Dr. Darin J. Knapp as its new Associate Director for Faculty Development in Research. Dr. Knapp brings 31 years of interdisciplinary basic research experience to the Center with extensive experience in mentoring, grantwriting, research, and publication. He received his PhD in Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience following his graduate work in Behavioral and Neuropharmacology at Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies. Upon completing his Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Brain and Development Research Center (the forerunner of today’s UNCCH Neuroscience Center), Dr. Knapp joined the faculty of the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies and continued his research into the behavioral and neural mechanisms involved in preference for alcohol and the sensitization of the alcohol withdrawal syndrome. He has authored more than 90 publications. Dr. Knapp is also an Instructor in the Department of Psychology and an Adjunct Associate Professor in Psychiatry at UNC, bringing experience from both the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine to this important role. His vision on engagement of faculty in arts and humanities as well as the sciences is impressive. Dr. Knapp is passionate about helping faculty members develop holistically, and is excited to bring his experiences to bear in working with the CFE team to integrate faculty development across Research, Leadership, Mentorship, and Teaching and Learning.
