The first day of class is an opportunity to learn more about your students, share expectations you have for each other, and illustrate the kind of learning environment you strive to create. This session uncovers practical strategies and activities for engaging students and developing rapport during the first few class meetings.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

• Identify characteristics of learners and their experiences which may influence your instructional choices
• Design first-day activities which set the tone for the learning environment you hope to nurture throughout the semester
