Integrating the Makerspace into your Course Curriculum
January 10, 2019, 5:00 AM - 6:00 AM EST
Course instructors – are you interested in integrating design and making into your course curriculum, but aren’t sure where to start? At the BeAM makerspaces, any UNC student, staff, or faculty can design and make physical objects using emerging technologies like 3D printers and laser cutters. In this workshop, we’ll explore how faculty across campus are using the makerspaces to engage their students in their course content. Work with staff from the BeAM network and the Center for Faculty Excellence to develop learning objectives that can be supported through a “maker” project. Brainstorm assignments that measure what you value the most, and walk away from this workshop with tools to outline your course around creative assignments.
We’ll also discuss the Makerspace Faculty Learning Community. Apply to be part of the 2019/2020 FLC cohort and receive up to $5,000 in salary support to integrate the makerspace into your course! Check out the call for proposals (deadline January 22nd) here: https://qep.unc.edu/makerspace/course-development/.
