The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a two-step approach. First faculty use scholarly inquiry on student learning to advance the practice of teaching and then make the findings public. Carolina faculty engage in SoTL when they give a presentation at a conference on the impact on student learning from redesigning their course, or when they conduct scholarly inquiry on how various student populations (e.g., veterans, first generation college students, or professional students) fare in their classes.
